A mobile health service aiming to “save local lives” will be visiting Glen Innes later this month, offering free health checks to the local community.
The Rotary Men’s Health Education Rural Van (mherv), a project operated by the Rotary Club of Warners Bay in collaboration with local Rotary clubs and community organisations, will be stationed in Glen Innes on Friday 29 and Saturday 30 August 2025.
The van will be located on the right-hand side of the Town Hall on Grey Street and open from 9.30am to 3.30pm on both days.
mherv has been operating for over six years across regional and rural NSW. Its goal is to provide quick, free health checks to people who may not have seen a doctor in years.
“The program is focused on men because unlike the womenfolk, they are not good at caring for their own health!… But nobody is turned away,” organisers said.
In a confidential and relaxed setting inside the van, a registered nurse will carry out basic health assessments, including checks on blood pressure, blood sugar and cholesterol levels—conditions that often show no symptoms until it’s too late.
“Just ten minutes invested with mherv can save your life or the life of someone you love,” the Rotary Club said.
The service has helped detect serious health conditions early and is credited with saving lives and improving outcomes for both men and women across NSW.
The Rotary Club of Glen Innes, which is helping bring the van to town, is also calling for volunteers to assist during the two days. Helpers are needed to support people with filling out forms, managing queues and offering general assistance. Anyone interested in volunteering is encouraged to contact the Rotary Club of Glen Innes.
