AMH Medical Centre has welcomed a new addition to its team, with Dr Danyal Tarachi joining the practice in Glen Innes.

Dr Tarachi, 28, hails from Bartella in Northern Iraq and brings with him a broad skill set, along with an accomplished background in community, arts and culture. Raised in a close-knit Orthodox Christian family, Dr Tarachi has been immersed in music, theatre and poetry from an early age. He became a professional pianist by the age of 12, performing entirely from memory.

His medical journey began in 2014 when he entered medical school and quickly rose to the top of his class, earning academic honours including third place in general surgery at Nineveh University. While his education was impacted by political unrest—including the cancellation of a planned scientific exchange to Washington—Dr Tarachi remained committed to his goal of becoming a doctor.

His recent move to Glen Innes has been supported by The Welcome Experience, a program delivered by Local Connect (formerly Attract, Connect, Stay – Glen Innes). The program provides tailored support for essential workers and their families as they settle into life in rural communities.

Dr Peter Annetts from AMH Medical Centre said that securing doctors for the region remains a key focus.

“We’re committed to ensuring the people of Glen Innes and our surrounding villages have access to quality, consistent healthcare. Recruiting doctors like Dr. Tarachi is essential to building a strong local medical workforce. We’re delighted to welcome him to the team and grateful for the support of Local Connect in helping make this transition successful.”

Dr Tarachi said the support he has received through the program has made a significant difference.
“Pagan through Local Connect’s ‘The Welcome Experience’ has played a key role in helping me feel supported, welcomed, and connected as I begin this new chapter,” he said. “I’m very grateful and hopeful about what lies ahead here.”

Executive Manager of Local Connect, Margot Davis, said Dr Tarachi’s arrival has been warmly welcomed.
“Dr. Tarachi is a fantastic addition to our community — not only as a skilled doctor, but as a person of heart, culture and dedication. His journey to Glen Innes is inspiring, and we’re so proud of the role Local Connect and AMH have played in supporting his transition.”

AMH Medical Centre and Local Connect continue to work together to attract and support professionals to the region, through programs that foster connection and long-term success in the Glen Innes community.
