Ashton’s Circus will be at the Glen Innes Showgrounds on the 6th, 7th and 8th of June. Ashton’s Circus is Australia’s oldest circus family, and with a history spanning 174 years, they are truly adept at showcasing their circus skills.
Currently Ashton’s has three different shows touring Australia. The one coming to Glen Innes is headed by seventh generation circus performer, Chantel Ashton-Rodriguez.
Chantel states that the show will provide a variety of circus skills, including aerial displays and ground based performances (e.g hula hoop). They also include a comedy element, and present their world-renowned globe riders from Brazil.
Chantel says that the circus tours all year, with six weeks off at the end of the year. She is the mother of an eighteen month old son, who has already been introduced to performance. Chantel herself was performing as a bare back rider as a two year old. The idea is to get the children accustomed to performing as soon as possible. Her parents are still involved and touring with the circus and like grandparents all over Australia, provide essential babysitting duties when needed.
Ashton’s Circus hasn’t toured to Glen Innes since the early 2000’s, and hope that the community will get behind them and show support for live art.
