Glen Innes is celebrating a remarkable achievement — Mr Matt Dodds, Physics and Biology teacher at Glen Innes High School, has received the Prime Minister’s Prize for Excellence in Science Teaching in Secondary Schools for 2025!
This national award recognises Mr Dodds’ outstanding dedication to inspiring young minds right here in Glen Innes. His innovative teaching makes science come alive — turning complex ideas into hands-on learning experiences that ignite curiosity and confidence. Passionate about opportunity for all, he ensures that students in rural and regional areas have access to the same high-quality STEM education as those in major cities.
One of his standout initiatives is the Astronomy and Astrophysics Depth Study Program, held annually at Siding Spring Observatory. Now in its seventh year, the program has given more than 280 regional students — including a growing number of girls — an unforgettable experience exploring the universe and its wonders.
Mr Dodds’ enthusiasm has lifted interest in science across Glen Innes High, encouraging students to dream big and aim high in STEM careers. His success is a proud moment for the school, the town, and the wider Glen Innes community.
Congratulations and well done Matt!
