Glen Innes Severn Council is calling on local creatives, educators and community organisations to help shape a new School of Arts and Music pilot set to launch in April.
Expressions of Interest are now open for musicians, artists, teachers, creative practitioners, businesses and community groups keen to be part of the initiative, which will begin in the week starting 20 April 2026, in line with the start of Term 2.
The pilot will be based at the former Severn Shire Council building at 181 Bourke Street, with the Council-owned facility currently undergoing repainting and preparation works.
Council will take on an enabling role, providing the space and supporting coordination, while the delivery of programs and activities will be driven by the community.
A community committee will be established to help guide and manage the six-month pilot phase, which will focus on building strong coordination and exploring the development of a digital hub to support scheduling, communication and participation.
The School of Arts and Music is expected to complement existing organisations and practitioners, including the Glen Innes Arts Council, local schools and the New England Conservatorium of Music, as well as independent artists and visiting performers.
Activities will be shaped by community interest and may include lessons, workshops, masterclasses, rehearsals, small performances and classes across visual and performing arts.
Council is encouraging anyone with an idea or interest in using the space to get involved, whether by delivering programs, collaborating with others or partnering as a provider.
An official opening will be announced in the coming weeks, giving the community an opportunity to tour the facility and explore how they can participate.
Further information and the Expression of Interest form are available on Council’s Have Your Say website.
