Two young Glen Innes athletes have been recognised for their achievements through the Northern Inland Academy of Sport (NIAS) in 2025.

Netballer Mia Watson is in her second year with the NIAS Netball program and was recently presented with the Most Dedicated Award, recognising her commitment, determination, and work ethic on and off the court.

Fellow Glen Innes athlete Imogen Biddle is also in her second year with NIAS, training under the Future Stars (Athletics) program. She has taken part in performance support activities such as strength and conditioning at Rural Fit, sport psychology, and nutrition guidance. Imogen recently returned from an athletics tour in Canada and was awarded one of ten $1,000 Athlete Assistance Grants from the Office of Sport, acknowledging her talent and dedication at a national level.

Mayor Margot Davis praised the athletes, saying, “It’s fantastic to see local sporting heroes achieving so much through NIAS. Mia and Imogen demonstrate the talent, dedication and community spirit our town is proud to support. Their achievements highlight not only their personal commitment but also the strength of our sporting community.”

NIAS provides coaching, education and performance support for athletes across northern NSW, aiming to help them reach their potential while balancing education and personal development.
