Nikki Lee has achieved the honour of being named the inaugural National AFL Superkick Volunteer of the Year, following her earlier recognition as the AFL NSW/ACT NAB AFL Superkick Volunteer of the Year.

Lee was presented with the state award by Lachie, AFL Participant Co-ordinator North West. The national award announcement came as a complete surprise during a special assembly at Glen Innes Public School today (surely the best-kept secret in the school’s history!), when Brad, Community Football & Competition Manager AFL Northern NSW, revealed the news.

Along with the award, Lee has won flights and accommodation to Melbourne, where she will take part in the AFL Grand Final parade and attend the huge grand final match.

Described as an outstanding volunteer, Lee has been instrumental in introducing the AFL Superkick program to Glen Innes — a regional club in a geographically challenging area. Recognising that distance and travel can limit access to traditional AFL pathways, she identified an opportunity to offer a program that was new, inclusive, and sustainable for the community.

Her promotion and leadership have resulted in more than 20 participants now actively engaged in Superkick — a significant achievement for a town the size of Glen Innes.

In addition to her Superkick role, Lee is the driving force behind the Glen Innes Celts. Her passion, leadership, and tireless commitment ensure the program runs smoothly while fostering a fun, welcoming, and development-focused environment for participants of all ages.

As a local primary school teacher, Lee extends her influence beyond the oval, building strong connections with families and introducing AFL to new players through both school and club pathways.

Her work has helped grow the game in meaningful and lasting ways, inspiring others in the region and setting a benchmark for what’s possible in small communities. This latest recognition cements her place as one of the country’s most dedicated grassroots sports advocates.
