Last Friday 29th November saw a match between Elks and RSL. The game got underway at the scheduled start of 5:00 but was shortened to a 16 over match in anticipation of bad light at the end of the day because of overcast conditions.
Elks won the toss and chose to bat with Mitch Swift (9) and Michael Miller (33) putting on 48 runs in 6 overs in a handy opening start. The Elks then lost 4 wickets in quick succession, leaving them at 4-56 at the end of the 9th over. Wickets continued to fall at regular intervals with only Tom Benton (23) staying for any time. Some late hitting by Mitch Cook (14) propelled the elks to a respectable 110 from their 16 overs.
Pick of the bowlers was Quinn Perkins whose big juicy pies where too delicious looking for the batsmen to resist, giving him the figures of 4-19 off 2 overs at the back end of the innings
In reply RSL also got off to a flier with Mitch Duddy hitting elks opening bowler Nic Grob for 4 consecutive sixes, resulting in Nic’s immediate removal from the bowling attack. Some tight bowling from Lachie Miller (1-7 from 4) and Harry Miller (0-22 from 4) saw the Elks pull things back and the required run rate started to climb.
Wickets were hard to come by but so were runs and by the time Mitch Duddy (50) was removed in the 13th over RSL needed 10 runs an over. Some good hitting by Ryan Macintyre (19*) made some dent in the required total but in the end RSL fell 18 runs short only managing to put together 92 from their 16 overs.
The second game between Club Hotel Colts and the Glen Innes Indians was scheduled for Saturday arvo and was abandoned without a ball being bowled because of the wet weather.
Games this weekend see RSL take on Colts in the Friday game and Elks take on the Indians on Saturday afternoon.
