The Glen Innes Town Hall will once again host the annual Christmas Day meal, a heartwarming tradition led by Astrid Scheer and her family. Starting at 11:30 am, the event promises an abundance of food, gifts, and festive cheer, welcoming everyone in the community.

Each year, this beloved gathering serves an average of 150 people, with additional preparations ensuring no one goes without. No RSVP is required, making it easy for anyone to join in the festivities. The event, now in its twelfth year, originally began in the Girl Guide hut on East Avenue. However, as the number of attendees grew, it moved to the larger Town Hall nine years ago.

Entirely funded by generous donations from the Glen Innes community, the event has thrived thanks to the kindness and support of local residents. Astrid Scheer expressed her gratitude, saying, “We couldn’t have continued for as long as we have without the incredible generosity of the residents of Glen Innes.”

The success of the event also relies on the dedicated efforts of volunteers. Over the years, many  have contributed their time and energy to ensure a smooth and joyful day for all attendees.

This beloved tradition was recently recognised with the 2024 Australia Day Award for Community Event of the Year, a testament to the impact it has had on the Glen Innes community.

Whether you’re seeking company, a festive meal, or simply the chance to share in the holiday spirit, the Christmas Day Lunch at the Town Hall is a welcoming celebration for everyone.
