Glen Innes Severn Council has approved the sale of part of 146-148 Church Street, Glen Innes, to New England CT Pty Ltd, a locally owned family business committed to improving regional healthcare.
The sale will facilitate the establishment of a state-of-the-art CT scanning facility and accommodation for healthcare workers. The initiative aims to provide better access to essential medical services for the community while creating an environment that attracts and retains skilled professionals in the area.
The investment in infrastructure and services by the purchaser of the property is expected to generate employment opportunities and reinforce Glen Innes Severn as an attractive place to live and work. Improved medical services and workforce accommodation will contribute to the region’s long-term sustainability, ensuring the community has the necessary resources and support.
Glen Innes Severn Council Mayor Margot Davis welcomed the development, stating: “Council is committed to improving healthcare accessibility, liveability and economic development. By supporting this initiative and other local healthcare projects, we are enabling Glen Innes Severn to be a place where people can access quality healthcare, professionals want to live and work, and businesses can grow.”
Mayor Davis also acknowledged the community’s ongoing concerns regarding healthcare accessibility. “We continually hear from the community about the need for better access to healthcare services, and this project represents one of the most significant steps forward in recent years. We recognise the challenges our community faces in accessing medical services, particularly the lack of local facilities and the high cost of travelling out of town for care. By supporting this development, Council is ensuring the effective utilisation of Council assets whilst helping to reduce barriers to healthcare and improve wellbeing,” she said.
Simon Betts, Director of New England CT Pty Ltd, emphasised the importance of this initiative for the region. “Over the last eight years, working in Glen Innes healthcare and providing 24/7 support, it became clear to me that there was a significant gap in access to critical healthcare facilities for our community and surrounding regions. As a result, New England CT was formed, enabling us to bring a new service like Computed Tomography (CT) to the community.”
“We are committed to improving regional healthcare access wherever possible, and we believe that this state-of-the-art CT machine will be a crucial step in ensuring that the people of Glen Innes and the surrounding areas receive the best possible medical care without having to travel long distances. We look forward to working closely with the Glen Innes Severn Council and the local community to make our vision a reality,” Mr Betts added.
Council will continue to provide updates as the project progresses
