From 26 May, Glen Innes residents will benefit from expanded healthcare services with the introduction of GP appointments at the Glen Innes Health Hub. The new offerings will include standard consultations, telehealth services, chronic disease management plans, mental health care plans, and health checks.

Rural Fit Managing Director, Andrew Mahony, said the move aims to help alleviate the region’s ongoing doctor shortage.

“GP services at the Glen Innes Health Hub eliminates the need for locals to travel hundreds of kilometres to have an appointment with a GP,” Mr Mahony said.

“There are a handful of GPs servicing the Glen Innes Severn Local Government Area of 8,945 people. In the first month, 560 GP appointments will be available at the Glen Innes Health Hub on Grey Street.

“During extensive consultation with local residents, 95 per cent said they wanted additional GP services in Glen Innes. The community spoke, and we have listened.”

In addition to GP services, the Hub offers access to a range of health professionals and programs, either in person or online. These include:

  • Diabetes Doctor / Endocrinologist

  • Diabetes Educator

  • Exercise and Movement classes

  • Women’s Health services focused on peri-menopause and menopause

  • Exercise Physiologist

  • Dietitian

  • Mental Health Specialists / Psychology / Psychiatry

  • Nurse

  • Parkinson’s Nurse

  • Occupational Therapist

  • Physiotherapist

  • Speech Pathologist

The Glen Innes Health Hub serves as a central access point for essential health services in regional and rural communities. It aims to support people with questions, concerns, or needs related to their health and wellbeing.

A key feature of the Hub is its team of Service Navigators, who offer non-clinical guidance to help residents connect with appropriate health, social, and community services. These include links to local GPs, exercise physiologists, mental health professionals, aged care and disability providers, and other support networks.

Glen Innes News was recently given a tour of the newly fitted out Health Hub, with staff excited to demonstrate some of the high-tech medical equipment at the new facility.

Bulk billing is to be available for some services and offered on a case-by-case basis.

Located in the former Westpac Bank building at 293 Grey Street, the Glen Innes Health Hub is part of the “Better Health for the Bush” initiative, delivered in partnership by the Primary Health Network (PHN) and Rural Fit.

Appointments can be booked from Tuesday 20 May by calling 02 6762 5544 or by visiting www.gleninneshealthhub.com.au.
