Glen Innes Severn Council has supported recovery efforts in the MidCoast Council area following the severe flooding event that struck the Mid North Coast in late May.

The flood, classified as a 1-in-500-year event, caused widespread damage to infrastructure and local road networks across the region. In response, a coordinated inter-Council support initiative—led by Lake Macquarie City Council—was launched to assist with emergency recovery works.

As part of the initiative, Glen Innes Severn Council was contracted to carry out urgent road repairs in the Gloucester area. Council deployed a jetpatcher truck, operated by staff member Stephen Crabbe, to assist with pothole patching alongside MidCoast Council crews over the course of a week.

The assistance provided by Glen Innes Severn Council was well received by those on the ground.

Mayor Margot Davis said the Council was proud to contribute to the recovery of another regional community.

“Communities across regional NSW often face the same challenges when it comes to natural disasters and infrastructure recovery,” Cr Davis said.

“It’s important that we support each other wherever we can. I commend Stephen for his willingness to assist and for representing Glen Innes Severn Council with professionalism and dedication.”

General Manager Bernard Smith also highlighted the importance of inter-Council cooperation.

“This type of support highlights the strength of regional networks,” Mr Smith said.

“Stephen’s contribution reflects the high standard of work our staff deliver, and we’re pleased that Glen Innes Severn was able to play a part in helping MidCoast Council recover from such a significant weather event. We extend our thanks to Stephen for his time away from home.”
