The Spend in Glen shop local initiative has wrapped up with truly outstanding results, reinforcing just how powerful community support for local business can be. Over the course of the promotion, around 13,000 entries were received, with 44 lucky shoppers rewarded after spending $20 or more at one of the 65 participating businesses.
Backed by $10,000 in prize money from Glen Innes Severn Shire Council, and generous additional support from the Glen Innes Services Club for the purchase of Spend Local gift cards, envelopes and advertising, the initiative delivered real benefits across the town.
The barrel was spun and the first draw proudly conducted by Bill and Moira Munro, recognising their more than 15 years of steadfast support for Spend in Glen. Further envelopes were drawn by organisers, council representatives and plenty of excited children, adding to the festive atmosphere.

Sue Waters from Carelles toy shop, one of the organisers, said the initiative had been “an outstanding success in encouraging visitors to stop, spend and explore Glen Innes, while also attracting shoppers from right across the New England.”
Strong promotion on GEM-FM and 2NZ radio reached audiences from Pallamallawa to Glen Innes and Armidale to Tenterfield, complemented by coverage through 2CBD-FM and Glen Innes News in print and online.
Thanks go to Lindy Alt and the Glen Innes High School Dancers and Glen Innes Arts Council Dancers, the Lions and Lionesses Clubs producing a great supply of the ever-popular sausage sandwiches, the Skinner Brothers, a surprise visit from Santa, and everyone who helped coordinate late-night shopping draw evenings.
