A warm show of community spirit greeted patients, staff and visitors at Glen Innes District Hospital on 6 April, as the United Hospital Auxiliary hosted its annual Mother’s Day stall.
Set up just inside the main entrance, the stall proved another resounding success, raising approximately $2,000 to support the hospital’s ongoing needs. Shoppers were treated to an array of homemade delights, with 12 local cooks—drawn from the auxiliary and their circle of friends—contributing a generous spread of cakes, slices and biscuits.
Alongside the baked goods, the table also featured homemade jams, soft toys and a raffle, offering something for everyone while encouraging donations to a worthwhile cause.
Funds raised by the auxiliary go directly towards purchasing equipment that enhances the safety and comfort of both patients and staff. Most recent purchases have included two new beds for palliative care nursing.
“We replace anything that deteriorates or becomes unsafe” said auxiliary member Sandra Keihne, highlighting the group’s practical and responsive approach to supporting the hospital.
Fellow volunteer Rhonda Lee noted that while the Mother’s Day stall is a major annual event, the community can lend its support year-round. A smaller version of the stall is held every Wednesday at the hospital’s main entrance counter, with a rotating selection of homemade “goodies” available for purchase.
The continued success of these efforts reflects the strong community backing behind the auxiliary, whose volunteers remain committed to making a tangible difference in local healthcare. The Auxiliary are extremely thankful to the Glen Innes community who are very supportive for their purchases and also for their generous donations.
