Job opportunities for the upcoming Census in our area

Residents across the Glen Innes Severn region are being encouraged to apply for flexible local jobs connected with the upcoming Australian Census, after concerns emerged about a low number of applications from within the district.

Regional stakeholders involved in Census 2026 awareness and recruitment campaigns say the Glen Innes Severn local government area has so far recorded a low response to recruitment efforts for Field Officer positions.

Community organisations, businesses, schools and local networks are now being asked to help spread the word before applications close.

The Field Officer roles will run between July and October 2026 and offer flexible working arrangements, making them suitable for a broad range of applicants, including students aged over 18, part-time workers, retirees and people seeking temporary employment.

Applicants do not need prior experience, with training provided as part of the role. Duties generally involve supporting Census participation within local communities.

Travel associated with the role attracts a generous mileage allowance, although applicants in some locations within the local government area will require a driver licence and access to a vehicle.

Recruitment advocates say there is strong hope that the available positions can be filled by local residents who already understand the region and its communities.

The application closing date has now been extended to June 10, 2026, in an effort to boost local participation.

Stakeholder information packs containing social media resources, posters and newsletter material are also being circulated throughout the region to encourage broader awareness of the opportunities.

Residents interested in applying or learning more about the Field Officer positions are encouraged to access the official Census 2026 recruitment resources online.
