Glen Innes Severn Council has partnered with Glen Industries to deliver the Glen Innes Landfill Revegetation Project during 2025–2026.

The initiative is supported by the NSW Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water, which has provided $20,000 to Council to help restore the site. The project aims to enhance biodiversity, reconnect wildlife corridors, improve ecological and visual amenity, and strengthen slope stability at the landfill.

Mayor Margot Davis said, “We are pleased to be partnering once again with Glen Industries on this important project. Their local expertise and commitment to biodiversity make them an ideal partner as we work to enhance the environment and create a greener, more sustainable space for our community.”

The section of the landfill chosen for regeneration was originally cleared in the 1960s for waste use. In 2021, the area was remediated by removing rubbish, restoring the slope to a more natural contour, and capping it with soil capable of supporting vegetation.

As part of the new revegetation project, up to 200 native plants will be established. Canopy species such as Eucalyptus viminalis, E. caliginosa, E. melliodora and Angophora floribunda will be planted, alongside mid-storey species including Acacia filicifolia and A. fimbriata. All plants will be sourced from locally grown seed or cuttings, providing benefits for slope stabilisation, appearance and creating a vegetated noise buffer.

Glen Industries was awarded the contract due to their strong local expertise in bush regeneration and biodiversity planting, as well as their extensive stock of locally propagated native species. Their role will include developing a site plan, preparing the ground, planting, and follow-up maintenance to ensure plant health
