ANZAC Nature Play Park Design Open for Community Feedback

an2

Glen Innes Severn Council is inviting community members to share their thoughts on the proposed design for the new ANZAC Nature Play Park. The planned nature-themed playground aims to encourage exploration, spark imagination and provide inclusive play opportunities for children of all ages and abilities.

Construction will begin following the current consultation period, which concludes on 9 July 2025.

What’s Planned?

an4The new playground will replace the existing play space within ANZAC Park, covering approximately 40 x 35 metres. The design embraces a nature play theme, incorporating natural-look materials such as ModWood and powder-coated steel in earthy tones, as well as elements like logs, rocks, bark and water.

Proposed features include:

  • A large multiplay area with shade sails
  • Separate zones for climbing, balancing, rocking and spinning
  • A double “Skyrider” flying fox with an inclusive seat
  • Traditional and alternative swing options
  • Open social areas and rest spaces
  • Waterplay features
  • A new accessible BBQ and seating area
  • Pathways connecting to East Avenue and the nearby toilets for improved accessibility

Background

The project has been shaped by community input, including a letter from local parents advocating for an upgraded facility, as well as advice from a playground consultant and consultation with key stakeholders. Council has engaged Moduplay Pty Ltd as the contractor to design and deliver the project.

an3In December 2022, Council secured $500,000 in funding through the Stronger Country Communities Program Round 5 and committed a further $100,000, creating a $600,000 budget for Stage 1. More recently, an additional $600,000 has been awarded through the Growing Regions Program, allowing Council to deliver both stages of the project together.

“This new funding presents an opportunity to deliver both stages of the project together, allowing for a more integrated and efficient construction process,” Council stated. “By combining the stages, Council and Moduplay will be able to minimise mobilisation costs and avoid having to close the playground to the community twice.”

Council advises that, although finalising the funding agreement took longer than expected, it is now looking forward to progressing the project and engaging the community on the proposed design.
