With only 2 weeks of rehearsals left until their opening performance, the cast, crew and production team for “We Will Rock You” are really stepping it up!

The Glen Innes Arts Council proudly presents the musical ‘We Will Rock You’ by Queen and Ben Elton, distributed by Ben Spicer Productions. With 11 performances running over 3 massive weeks, between August 29th through to September 13th at the historic Chapel Theatre, this show is shaping up to be amazing! Featuring an all-star local production team, a talented cast and band, the unforgettable music of Queen, a dash of innuendo, and a hint of romance, this musical offers something for everyone.

Directed by the amazing Jenny Sloman ‘We Will Rock You’ is set 300+ years in the future where earth has been renamed ‘iPlanet’ and forced into conformity by the evil Killer Queen (Naomi Bain), Commander Khashoggi (Kat Sharman) and the Globalsoft corporation. Individuality is unlawful, musical instruments are forbidden, and rock music is unknown. The musical tells the story of a renegade group – The Bohemians – and their quest to restore free thinking to the world through the power of ROCK ‘N’ ROLL! (even if they don’t quite know what that is). They believe in a prophecy that says ‘a Dreamer’ (Nathan Skinner) will one day come and restore the world to individuality by uncovering ‘the key’ that will unlock rock music once again. Will the Bohemians prevail? You’ll have to come find that out for yourself.

The music has been brought together by the extremely talented Kath Duddy. She has also included her A-Team band consisting of Mikey Williams, Scottie Macansh, Nesta Johnson, Shanny Core and Michael DeWyntre. There’ll be emotional ballads (Tahleia Gerlofsma), songs about love (Catie Turner), sweet, sweet nostalgia (Sean O’Hara), and hits that will make you want to get down and funky (Jay Post). With favourites such as “Bohemian Rhapsody”, “We Will Rock You” and “We Are The Champions”, you’ll feel as if you were attending the iconic Live Aid concert of 1985.

And what’s all this music and acting without some dance? Local legend in the dance world – Lindy Alt – has come on board as our choreographer and her fantastic dance team have also been asked along for the ride.

There is nothing that the producer Genevieve Byrne hasn’t thought of. She has been able to gather amazing creatives from our area and add in their distinct talents to elevate this show to be the best production it can be. All of this as well as sourcing volunteers for backstage, props and costuming. “This musical has been an amazing collaboration of passionate volunteers who love theatre and being creative in some shape or another. We all hope that you can enjoy the magic of the arts with us all too!” said Geneveive.

A Gala Night will be held for the Opening Night performance on Friday 29 August. This event has been organised by Ruth Sim Brummel and Katie Macansh to raise funds for important maintenance, upkeep and future renovations of our historic Chapel Theatre. Proudly sponsored by Roberts + Morrow, the evening will commence at 6:30pm for champagne & charcuterie boards, followed by a light supper before the show starts at 8pm. Sweet treats will be served at intermission.

All tickets are available at Carelles – 250 Grey St, Glen Innes and are $50 for the Gala Night and then $30 adult and $20 concession for all remaining shows (cash only). Tickets are selling fast, so get down and see Sue to choose your seats. If you would like to enquire about a particular show date, you can call Carelles on (02) 6732 1997.
