A Local Update From Brendan Moylan MP

Glen Innes High School annual presentation

Following the catch-up with the councillors, I went to Glen Innes High School for their annual presentation.

It was excellent to see such a large number of students and teachers recognised for their contributions in the classroom as well as on the sporting field and in the arts areas.

Council catch-up

It was good to gather with Glen Innes Severn Shire Councillors last week to discuss important issues and concerns from across the Glen Innes Local Government Area.

We also discussed the best ways moving forward to grow the area and what options are available for council from the NSW Government. It is important councils have open access to the local member and I am doing my best to catch up with councils across the electorate.

Healthcare

There has been considerable feedback regarding the need for more GPs in the area. This is a critical issue, and it’s one that has been raised multiple times in the NSW Parliament.

The Federal Government is responsible for private practice GPs and Medicare, while the State Government manages public hospitals, healthcare services, and the regulation of private hospitals and providers.

To address the GP shortage, the Federal Government must create incentives to encourage medical students to train as GPs and practice in regional areas. The NSW Health Minister has also raised concerns about this issue, and it is important the Federal Government recognizes the scale of the shortage and takes action to resolve it.

I will continue to advocate for better health services in our region.

Christmas message

As the year comes to a close, it’s a time to pause and reflect on all we’ve accomplished. While we celebrate, let’s remember those who continue working through the holidays. A heartfelt thank you to our emergency services personnel—police, firefighters, ambulance officers, nurses, doctors, and SES volunteers—whose unwavering dedication ensures our safety year-round.

If you’re still ticking off your Christmas shopping list, I encourage you to shop local. Small businesses are the heart of our region, and the holiday season offers a perfect opportunity to support them.

This year has been exceptionally busy for the Northern Tablelands electorate. I’m truly honoured to represent the communities within it. Since becoming your local MP, it’s been a privilege to advocate on behalf of our region and ensure our voices are heard.

On behalf of my family—Catherine, Lucy, Rory, and Milly—I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
