Glen Innes Community Centre Supports Locals Through The Christmas Season

Christmas is a wonderful time to reflect on the past year, celebrate the positives, and acknowledge the resilience that got us through the challenges. It’s also a season for giving back to our local community and showing gratitude to the region’s incredible welfare and support services, many of which are run by dedicated volunteers.

Glen Innes boasts a variety of community services aimed at helping residents through difficult times or providing opportunities for connection and growth. These services play a crucial role in supporting people who may feel stuck, unsure, or in need of a helping hand.

For nearly four decades, the Glen Innes District and Community Centre has been a lifeline for local residents facing challenges, offering guidance, support, and resources. Recognising that Christmas can be a tough time for many—especially for those without family nearby—the Centre is hosting a Christmas Lunch at 12:30 p.m. on December 19th. Wendy Hardman, the Centre Coordinator, explained that the lunch is open to everyone and is free of charge, though donations are welcome. To assist with catering, guests will need to book their spot by December 12th.

It’s worth noting that this is a separate event from the free Glen Innes Community Luncheon being held at the Town Hall at 11:30 a.m. on Christmas Day.

The Community Centre will remain open throughout the Christmas and New Year period, except on public holidays. However, please note that the Seventh Day Adventist sponsored Glen Food Hub will close on December 19th and reopen on February 6th, 2025. For assistance during this time, don’t hesitate to visit or call the Community Centre.

Looking ahead to the New Year, the Glen Innes and District Community Centre is launching a program for residents aged 50 and over. The “Get Connected” training course will teach participants how to use technology, including setting up and managing email accounts and accessing online services via mobile phones.

This free program is an opportunity to develop digital skills and stay connected in an increasingly online world. To register, simply call the Centre.
