The community is gearing up for a festive weekend with a special event aimed at supporting the beloved Chapel Theatre. Local talent will take centre stage for A Christmas Showcase, a fundraising concert featuring a vibrant mix of musical genres and performances.
The event will highlight some of Glen Innes’ finest musicians, including a house band comprising Mikey Williams, Mark Howell, Scott Macansh, and Michael de Wyntre, under the direction of Kath Duddy. Joining them will be vocalists such as Naomi Bain, Catie Turner, Tahlia Gerlofsma, Katie Wren Haselwood, and James Flinn. Adding to the lineup are the high school dance team and special guest performers, the Skinner Boyz.
Rather than traditional carols, the program will showcase Christmas-themed songs spanning country rock, rock and roll, jazz, blues, and soul. Steve Merta of Anketell Sound Stage will ensure top-quality sound for this collaborative performance, where many artists will share the stage for the first time.
The event is particularly meaningful as it coincides with the 80th anniversary of the Glen Innes Arts Council, recognised as the longest consecutively running arts council in Australia.
“This is a rare opportunity for the community to enjoy a one-of-a-kind collaboration while supporting a vital cultural hub” said organisers.
There will be two shows only: Friday, 20 December at 7 pm and Sunday, 22 December at 2 pm. Doors will open early, with a bar and refreshments available to set the tone for a festive experience.
Tickets can be purchased from Carelles (250 Grey St, Glen Innes), but availability is limited. Proceeds from the event will go towards maintaining and enhancing the Chapel Theatre.
Make this Christmas season extra special by celebrating local talent and supporting a cherished community institution.
