Wentworth Street Bridge Replacement Project Completed

The replacement of the Wentworth Street Bridge, a key crossing over Rocky Ponds Creek, has been successfully completed after nine months of construction and final landscaping work.

The project, funded through the NSW Government’s Fixing Country Bridges program, involved replacing the ageing timber bridge with a modern concrete structure designed to enhance safety and improve traffic flow for residents and visitors.

The new bridge features a higher and wider design, offering better clearance and capacity. These improvements address long-standing safety concerns and enable smoother traffic movement. The $1.068 million project was delivered under budget by Glen Innes Severn Council’s Works Department, working in partnership with specialist contractors.

In the final stages of the project, drainage systems were installed around the bridge abutments to manage water effectively. Landscaping work included laying new turf and planting trees along the surrounding embankments, contributing to the restoration of the area and enhancing its urban appeal.

Mayor Margot Davis welcomed the completion of the project, stating, “The replacement of the old timber bridge with a higher and wider concrete structure represents a significant improvement for both local residents and visitors.”

“This project, commenced under the previous Council and now completed, not only improves safety but also enhances the streetscape and contributes to our beautiful parklands,” she added.

The project received grant funding from the Australian Government and was supported by Glen Innes Severn Council.
