Small Town Magic: The rise, rise and rise of the Men’s Shed Market

Once upon a time, in a charming country town, the local car boot market was a humble monthly affair. But three passionate locals (Jude, Jane and Flick) saw its potential to become so much more. With a sprinkle of imagination and a more than a dash of determination, they transformed the modest event into a bustling farmers, producers, and craft market that now draws locals and visitors alike.

On the 4th Saturday of the month, from 8am to 1pm, the Glen Innes showground comes alive with up to 60 stalls. What began with a handful of determined vendors has blossomed into a hub of creativity, flavour, and craftsmanship. There’s something for everyone, and the buzz of community spirit is positively infectious.

Artisan distillers tempt visitors with their small-batch creations, while Country Women’s Association bakers fill the air with the irresistible aroma of fresh cakes and biscuits. Garden enthusiasts showcase their flourishing gems, and woodworkers display crafted pieces that seem to whisper stories of their making – they make a lot of sawdust!

Coffee lovers find their fix alongside the infamous, yet humble Australian icon – the bacon and egg roll and sausage sandwiches prepared by the blokes at the Men’s Shed, with local meats. Preloved goods catch the eye of the thrifty treasure-hunter. Meanwhile, rock tumblers add a sparkle to the scene, crafting intricate designs that dazzle in the sunlight. From handcrafted candles to soaps and bags and kids clothes this market isn’t just about shopping; it’s an experience. The laughter of children mingles with the hum of conversations between stallholders and visitors. Friends reconnect over coffee, and travellers marvel at the small-town charm.

The market has become a cherished tradition, drawing people together every month to celebrate creativity, passion, and the best of country living.
