Small businesses are the backbone of a rural community. Without them, access to goods and services would be severely limited and people would have to travel long distances to acquire what they need.
Tyrepower Glen Innes is one example of a flourishing small business in this town. And 2025 is a special year for Tyrepower as they reach some important milestones. This year marks an amazing fifty years in the tyre and mechanical industry for the Cave family in Glen Innes, as well as thirty-one years for Matt Cave employed in and then owning the business.
In 1975, Allan and Gail Cave, and Bob and Val Poulton took over Glen Innes Discount Tyres from Don and Frances Hall, in a business lineage that goes back to JF Chaffey and Sons. Matt spent afternoons and holidays working in the business. In 2002, after Allan had gone through a very difficult time, Matt and his wife Jacqui bought into the business and have carried it forward.
Obviously, over the years, the Caves have noticed a raft of changes in the industry, especially in the occupational health and safety area. But what remains the same is the needs of the workers and the customers. Matt and Jacqui see their priority as keeping their staff happy and by encouraging mutual respect they continue to keep this in the front of their work practices. They also maintain collaborative work relationships with other mechanical businesses in town.
Currently a third generation is working in the business, with Molly Cave on reception. Jacqui is concentrating on social media and marketing, and with Matt at the helm, the family business remains in good hands.
We would like to congratulate them on their fine achievement!
