This was how the Martin – Kiehne wedding was reported on 22 January 1925 -100 years ago.
“Two highly respected families of the Glen Innes district were linked together yesterday afternoon, when in the Holy Trinity Church the Rev H K Gordon solemnised the marriage of Police Constable Victor Martin, eldest son of Mr and Mrs PJ Martin of the Willows, Glen Elgin and Miss Eva Irene Kiehne daughter of Mr and Mrs C H Kiehne of Six Mile Dundee.
Considerable interest was aroused in the event and there was a large gathering to witness the ceremony.
The bride, who entered the church on the arm of her father, was daintily attired in ivory crepe de chine trimmed with silk radium lace orange blossoms and pearls and wore the veil which her mother wore at her marriage.
She carried a beautiful bouquet of daisies, roses and asparagus fern, which together with a xylonite manicure set, was the gift of the bridegroom.
Miss Alma Kiehne chief bridesmaid wore pink morocaine trimmed with buttons and a black hat.
Miss Elsie Martin who also attended the bride wore saxe blue crepe de chine with black hat.
The bridesmaids who carried bouquets of sweet peas tied with tulle streamers were presented by the bridegroom with xylonite toilet sets.
The bride’s gift to the groom was a set of engraved gold sleeve links. Mr Thomas Martin was best man and Mr Fred Kiehne groomsman.
After the ceremony over 100 guests were entertained by the bride’s mother who was tastefully attired in black silk with Oriental trimmings and hat to tone. Mrs Martin wore black with grey trimmings and hat en suite.
Subsequently Mr and Mrs Martin left for Sydney, the bride travelling in navy cashmere de soie, beaded with Oriental trimmings and hat to tone. Their future home will be in Newcastle…”
