A petition calling for action on crime in regional New South Wales has reached the required 20,000 signatures, ensuring the issue will be debated in State Parliament.

The ePetition, which aims to address concerns about crime in regional areas, calls for changes including:

  • Strengthening bail laws to prevent violent young offenders from re-offending.
  • Increasing resources and support for police officers to effectively apprehend and prosecute offenders.
  • Reviewing the judicial system to prioritise community safety.

Member for Northern Tablelands, Brendan Moylan, acknowledged the strong support for the petition and thanked residents for making their voices heard.

“The people of regional NSW have spoken loud and clear; we have had enough of the amount of serious crime in our towns,” Mr Moylan said.

“The fact the ePetition took less than one month to reach its goal proves this is what the people of regional NSW want.”

Mr Moylan emphasised the need for changes to ensure the courts impose firm and effective sentences on repeat offenders.

“This important issue will now be raised in NSW Parliament, and the ball will be in Premier Chris Minns’ court,” he said.

“I look forward to seeking the call to speak on this topic in Parliament.”

He also acknowledged the efforts of Phebe Furneaux and regional communities in pushing for action on the issue.
