The Glen Innes community now has the opportunity to preview the much-anticipated $50 million hospital redevelopment, with a newly released fly-through video offering a virtual tour of the future facility.
The New South Wales Government has committed $50 million to the redevelopment, ensuring the hospital is equipped with modern and refurbished facilities to meet the evolving healthcare needs of the region.
An animation showcasing the hospital’s new design has been released alongside the schematic plans, and community members are invited to share their feedback at upcoming information sessions in April.
Planning and design work is progressing, with the redevelopment set to include a new hospital building featuring an expanded emergency department, a medical imaging department, an ambulance drop-off area with dedicated bays, and a new mortuary.
In addition, a new main entry from Ferguson Street is planned to improve accessibility for patients, carers, and visitors. The project will also introduce a redesigned driveway leading to a drop-off area outside the new hospital building. Once the redevelopment is complete, the Macquarie Street entrance will be designated for ambulance use, staff parking, deliveries, and service vehicles.
Community input has played a key role in shaping the design, with the new brick building and interiors drawing inspiration from local architectural styles and natural materials to complement the existing hospital infrastructure.
Community information sessions will be held at Mackenzie Mall (outside Coles) on:
- Tuesday, 1 April, from 4:00pm to 6:00pm
- Wednesday, 2 April, from 12:00pm to 2:00pm
Residents can provide feedback on the designs until Monday, 7 April 2025.
Construction timelines will be confirmed following the completion of statutory planning approvals and the appointment of a building contractor.
Further details on the project can be found on the Glen Innes Hospital Redevelopment webpage.
Minister for Regional Health, Ryan Park, said “Staff and community consultation has been considered in developing the latest design for the redevelopment, which will deliver new and refurbished health facilities to support the needs of Glen Innes and surrounding communities.
“I’m pleased to see the new hospital building will enhance access to vital health services for the community.”
