The historic Wellingrove Memorial Hall, a treasured landmark in the small village northwest of Glen Innes, is set to receive a fresh coat of paint and vital preservation work, thanks to funding from the Community War Memorials Fund.

The grant will enable the hall’s memorial fence to be stripped and repainted, helping conserve it for future generations. The hall holds deep significance for the local community, both as a site of remembrance and as a hub for social gatherings.

Nationals Member for Northern Tablelands, Brendan Moylan, welcomed the funding and acknowledged the hall’s central role in the village.

“The hall is nearly 100-years-old and holds the Wellingrove Honor Roll which lists the names of locals who served in the first and second World Wars,” Mr Moylan said.
“It is an important part of the village’s history and a special place for the people of Wellingrove.
“It is excellent to see such a significant part of the community preserved and congratulations to the Wellingrove Progress Association for the continuous upkeep of the hall.”

The restoration work comes as the community begins preparations to celebrate the hall’s centenary in 2027.

Wellingrove Progress Association Incorporated secretary Kirrily Holder said the grant would have lasting benefits.

“This grant will benefit so many people, not only now but for years to come,” she said.
“It gives people a place to be able to honour those that sacrificed so much for our independence and a renewed sense of community.
“It also provides a sense of pride within our community. The Memorials are owned by the Wellingrove Progress Association Incorporated which have donated many volunteer hours over the years in ensure the Memorials are kept in a way to show our respect for those who served. The facilities also provide a place for the community to gather and engage in today’s world.

“We are honoured to be a recipient of grant funding of Round 2 of the Community War Memorials Fund and thank all those involved to make this happen, as well as the volunteers over the years to keep this piece of history in such good condition.”
