Students from Glen Innes High School’s Year 12 cohort added a splash of creativity and community spirit to this year’s Athletics Carnival by taking part in a light-hearted “Box Car Race” to raise funds for Beyond Blue and for the school formal.

Each Year 12 group traditionally selects a theme for the carnival, and the Class of 2025 opted for homemade cardboard vehicles. With the support of Ms Squires, Mrs Biddle and Jaime Porter—and plenty of hot chips to keep energy levels high—the students spent an afternoon designing, building, and painting their imaginative cars.

In the lead-up to the event, students approached local businesses for support and were met with generous sponsorships, both major and minor.

Major Sponsors:
🔸 Moveology
🔸 Furnished in Glen
🔸 Home Timber & Hardware

Minor Sponsors:
🔹 Glen Innes Newsagency & Gifts
🔹 Velquip
🔹 Campbells Butchery
🔹 Cluck it (River Gum Free Range Eggs)
🔹 Raindrops and Lollipops
🔹 TSG
🔹 LJ Hooker
🔹 Allcrete
🔹 Indulge
🔹 Teez Hair Studio
🔹 Cocoaberry & Co
🔹 Rhubarb and Rosie
🔹 Grazag
🔹 Charlie Chickens
🔹 Home Living
🔹 Smeatons Bakery
🔹 Bruce Family Butchery

The highlight of the day was the 100-metre dash, where students raced while piloting their cardboard creations. Among the contenders were a chicken, a hungry caterpillar, and an aqua duck—but it was Jaydah Kerr, racing in the “Big Red Car” and representing Cluck It! – River Gum Egg Farm, who took out first place.

As her prize, Jaydah earned a free ticket to the next Year 12 fundraising event—a trivia night scheduled for Saturday 2 August at the Glen Innes Services Club.

The Year 12 Formal Committee expressed their heartfelt thanks to the many local businesses that contributed to the initiative, as well as to Ms Squires and Mrs Biddle for providing materials and guidance.
