Glen Innes Severn Council has announced it has accepted the donation of a unique sculpture, affectionately known as “Roobot“, from Taronga Mines Pty Ltd. The sculpture is proposed to be installed in a public park or space in Emmaville, where it is expected to become a creative focal point for the community and visitors alike.

Council acknowledged the donation from Taronga Mines and expressed its appreciation for the gesture, stating that the artwork would contribute positively to the streetscape and support Emmaville’s appeal as a destination known for its heritage, charm, and strong community spirit.

Taronga Mines Pty Ltd, a subsidiary of First Tin Plc, is currently advancing the Taronga Tin Project near Emmaville.

About Roobot

Roobot is a tribute to the animals affected by the 2019 east coast bushfires. Designed as a fictional robotic rescuer, Roobot is imagined to assist native Australian wildlife in all-natural disasters, including floods, bushfires, droughts, and cyclones. The sculpture depicts Roobot collecting injured and displaced animals in its pouch and transporting them to safety for medical care.

The sculpture is made entirely from recycled materials, primarily using panels from classic Volkswagen Kombis and Beetles. Roobot was first exhibited at the 2024 Swell Sculpture Festival held at Currumbin Beach on Queensland’s Gold Coast.

Roobot was created by artist Michael “Mick” Brown, who began his artistic career as a traditional sign writer in the Whitsundays. Brown has worked extensively as an oil painter and airbrush artist and entered the field of sculpture in 2023 with his debut piece “Shark Rod” at the Swell Sculpture Festival. Roobot was his second sculpture for the festival in 2024.
