Glen Innes Severn Public Library will be hosting an author visit by Gary Davis on Saturday 16th August. Gary is the author of Pitt Street Bankers.
Gary said “this story is based on actual events I experienced whilst practicing as a solicitor in Lismore in the 1980s. One of my clients, was caught up in a banking scam that was occurring throughout Australia. So, in 1987 on his behalf, I sued one of Australia’s big-four banks in the Supreme Court of NSW in Sydney.
“I started writing young and won a regional writing competition as a ten-year-old. My writing skills have been honed during my career as a banker and as a solicitor. After I finished writing the Pitt Street Bankers story, I taught myself how to edit.
“I personally experienced most of the storyline of Pitt Street Bankers, however for two very important chapters set in Canberra, I contacted three high-profile gentlemen who got me into the room where some significant Federal-Government decisions were made in 1983. Some of those decisions opened the door for the banking scam to occur. The gentlemen I interviewed were, Mr Peter Martin (economic and financial editor of three leading Australian newspapers), economic professor Mr Ross Garnaut (personal advisor to Bob Hawke during his term as Prime Minister) and economic professor Mr Barry Hughes (personal advisor to Paul Keating during his term as Treasurer).”
People who would like to attend Gary’s author visit at Glen Innes Severn Public Library should call the library to RSVP on 6730 2600.
