This month's After Dark movie is to be screened on 18 December, the third Thursday of December, commencing at  6.30pm at the Glen Innes Severn Public and TAFE Library. The movie stars Tim Allen and Jamie Lee Curtis in a comedy film of a couple trying to skip Christmas for a cruise, but end up scrambling to recreate the holiday when their daughter unexpectedly comes home. Glen Innes Severn Public Library will be hosting an author visit by Gary Davis on Saturday 16th August. Gary is the author of Pitt Street Bankers. Gary said “this story is based on actual events I experienced whilst practicing as a solicitor in Lismore in the 1980s. One of my clients, was caught up in a banking scam that was occurring throughout Australia. A chance meeting on a train nearly twenty years ago lead to the establishment of a Glen Innes chapter of Wrap with Love.  Apparently, the person involved asked another passenger what they were crocheting.  When the other passenger told them what they were doing, the Glen Innes resident felt that Glen Innes could become a part of this process.  Glen Innes Wrap with Love started off with two participants.  And so it has continued in an unbroken stream from then until now. Now a fixture on the Celtic Festival calendar, the Friends of the Library Annual Book Sale is on again at Glen Innes Scout Hall. Glen Innes Severn Council will consult the community on a proposed special rate variation (SRV) that could see rates increase by up to 68.5 per cent over three years, as part of its effort to address long-term financial sustainability. At its Ordinary Meeting held in April, councillors endorsed a number of strategies and plans under the Shaping Tomorrow Community Engagement Program. The program will gauge ratepayer sentiment on future planning priorities and potential SRV options.
