The Glen Innes Public School’s senior choir and small choral group both brought home First Place trophies from the annual Tenterfield Eisteddfod in the first week of September.
The eisteddfod was held in the Tenterfield School of Arts Theatre under the watchful eyes, and ears, of London-trained adjudicator, Melissa Buchholz. Ms Buchholz teaches woodwind, piano, double bass and singing, and her students have won countless awards and scholarships (and toured and performed) all over Europe.

The accompanists for the Glen Innes contestants were pianist Helen Smith and guitarist Sean O’Hara.

Twenty Five of the 33 choir members made the trip to Tenterfield with School Librarian Ms Katiee Randall, who has been working with the choir in the category for Primary Schools with more than 50 pupils, for the past six months.

The choir performed “The Shepherd and His Dog”, which is a traditional Welsh song, and also sang a Matilda Medley of “When I Grow Up” and “Naughty” from Tim Minchin’s hit musical “Matilda”. The Small Choral Group comprised 10 children who performed “G’day G’day”.

The clarity of both groups’ diction was praised by the adjudicator.
