The BreastScreen NSW mobile clinic is currently stationed in the public car park behind Glen Innes Town Hall, Sommerlad Lane, and will remain there until Wednesday 25 February 2026, offering free breast screening to eligible women.
Rebecca Delaporte, Manager of BreastScreen NSW Hunter New England, says regular screening is one of the most effective ways women can protect their health. Early detection of breast cancer significantly improves survival rates and can reduce the need for invasive treatments such as mastectomy or chemotherapy. Importantly, around 90 per cent of women diagnosed with breast cancer have no family history, underscoring the value of routine screening.
The local visit makes it easier for women to attend their recommended two-yearly screen. Appointments are free, take less than 20 minutes and require no doctor’s referral.
Women aged 50 to 74 are invited to screen every two years, Aboriginal women are encouraged to start from 40, and anyone with symptoms should see their GP promptly. The van is fully accessible, with a lift for women with mobility needs.
Bookings can be made at book.breastscreen.nsw.gov.au or by calling 13 20 50.
