Glen Innes Leos – 40 Years Young

Glen Innes Leo’s programme is sponsored by the Lions Club and offers an opportunity for young people in the community to:

  • help others through organised and productive activities
  • provide an opportunity for young people to develop leadership abilities
  • foster an awareness on the part of Leo’s for others less fortunate than themselves

Leo’s Clubs are for males and females and range from 12-35 years. Alpha Leo’s are aged between 12 – 18 years. Omega Leo’s are from 19 – 35 years. Glen Innes Leo’s are an “Alpha” Club.

The first Leo’s Club in Australia was formed in Ingham Qld in 1976. The Glen Innes Leo’s, under the sponsorship of the Glen Innes Lions, was chartered in 1986 with 18 young members. Glen Innes Leo’s are a community-based club with many others being School or, for older Leo’s, University-based.

The Leo’s Club motto is “Leadership, Experience and Opportunity” which says it all.

Since 2008 the Glen Innes Leo’s have donated $69,650 to many areas. These include local Schools, Salvation Army, Ronald McDonald House, Camp Quality, Lions Childhood Cancer Research, Lions Foundations, Little Wings and Dolly’s Dream – to name a few.

To celebrate 40 years of the Glen Innes Leo’s, a “Day of Celebration” will be held on Saturday 23rd May at the Standing Stones. This will incorporate a Teddy Bear’s Picnic and children’s activities plus train rides for kids, Mums and Dads. The Lions and Leo’s vans will be available for food, consisting of a BBQ and drinks will be available. It is a $3.00 a Day – i.e. BBQ $3.00, Drinks $3.00.

Come along and enjoy.
