The Glen Innes Bowling Club hosted the Cancer Council’s Biggest Morning Tea on 28 May, attracting around 130 guests from across the district in what proved to be a highly successful and heartwarming community event.
Decorated in vibrant shades of yellow and blue, the club provided a welcoming and uplifting setting for the occasion. Guests enjoyed a lavish morning tea made possible through the generosity of local businesses, with an abundance of food ensuring there was enough for second and even third helpings, as well as takeaway plates for many attendees.
One of the highlights of the morning was the inspiring story shared by a local husband-and-wife cancer survivor team, whose personal journey touched and encouraged those present.
Entertainment and activities kept the crowd engaged throughout the event. Tea-themed trivia provided plenty of laughter, while raffles and silent auctions proved extremely popular and quickly sold out. A beautifully decorated donated cake was ceremonially cut and served by six local homeschooling students.
The event also featured a hotly contested yellow and blue fashion parade, a surprise ballet performance, two vocal solos, and live music from Nathan Skinner, who helped create a wonderful atmosphere for the gathering.
The biggest announcement of the day came at the conclusion of the event, when organisers revealed that close to $2,200 had been raised for the Cancer Council.
