The Glen Innes Lions Club recently hosted its annual Lions Youth of the Year event, proudly led by Chairperson Lion Terry te Velde.
Four talented students from Glen Innes High School — Azalea Singh, Ilyssa Newbury, Jayden McIntyre, and William Lynn — impressed judges and guests alike with their confidence, intellect, and poise. Each contestant participated in panel interviews, responded to two impromptu questions, and delivered a five-minute prepared speech on a topic of their choice.
Guests were treated to an entertaining performance by the Jacaranda Highlander Celtic Dancers, while representatives from Glen Innes Lions, Glen Innes Highlands Lioness Lions, and Glen Innes High School joined to support the students.
Judges Matthew Velcich, John Chappell, and Robyn Stewart faced the difficult task of selecting a winner, given the high calibre of presentations. Congratulations to all contestants for their outstanding participation.
William Lynn was announced as the overall winner and will now advance to the Zone Final, representing the Glen Innes Lions in the NSW Zone 8 competition. Jayden McIntyre received the Public Speaking Award, while Azalea Singh and Ilyssa Newbury were presented with Participation Awards.
The Lions extend heartfelt thanks to the Glen Innes Services Club for hosting the event, The Stones Restaurant for catering, the Jacaranda Highland Dancers for their performance, and the Glen Innes Highlands Lioness-Lions Club for their ongoing support.
With young people of this calibre, the future of Glen Innes is indeed bright.
