Water NSW has issued a red alert warning for blue-green algae in Beardy Waters and Beardy Waters Weir. This naturally occurring seasonal issue affects untreated water and has implications for recreational use and livestock. The red alert warning advises against consuming untreated water from the affected areas, as boiling does not remove algae toxins. Recreational activities such as swimming, canoeing, and fishing should also be avoided until the alert is lifted. Beardy Waters Dam will welcome experts from WaterNSW on 6 November as part of a collaboration with Glen Innes Severn Council aimed at enhancing the monitoring and safety of local dam infrastructure.
