June 21 is the Winter Solstice - the shortest day of the year with the longest noon shadow of the year. Locals and visitors gathered on an ideally sunny day at the Australian Standing Stones to observe the solar noon shadow which is the ‘longest shortest noon shadow of the year’.

Locals Honoured By Celtic Council Of Australia

The Celtic Council of Australia held its Annual Honours Luncheon at the Red Lion Tavern in Glencoe on Saturday. The occasion recognises individuals who have given honourable service to the Celts in Australia. The honour of Duine Uasal (Honoured Person) was given to local residents Fiona O’Brien, Peter Grimes and John Rhys-Jones. Fiona O’Brien is a member of the Australian Standing Stones Management Board and has very ably supported the Board’s activities both in the past and today, where her financial acumen is highly valued.
