The Deepwater Tennis Club is holding a fundraising ball at the end of November, with proceeds going towards equipment and renovations at the club. Club president Chris McIntosh said there had not been a similar event in Deepwater for some time and the “Tennis Ball” would be a great opportunity for locals to get dressed up and have a fun night out, while supporting their local community.
“Our club is really active, especially considering the size of the town, and our new committee is looking for ways to ensure our club continues to thrive. We have a long list of ideas for improvements to our facilities. The suggestion was made to hold a black tie ball, and raise some money to start making these ideas a reality.”
The ball will be held at the Deepwater School of Arts Hall on Saturday 30th November, with live music by local band The Karma Cowboys. Chris said that the response so far has been very positive, and local businesses have also been very supportive. “People who’ve got their tickets are getting excited about the night, and we can’t speak highly enough of our sponsors who’ve been incredibly generous in their donations. We’ll have professional catering, the bar will be operating, there’s going to be an amazing prize auction – it’s will be a great night.”
Chris also encouraged Deepwater locals to make use of the tennis courts and consider joining the club. “The courts are there for everyone to benefit from. Tennis is a good way to keep active, regardless of your age or ability, and the social side is good too. Hire a court, sign up as a reserve player or come for a hit of social tennis on a Sunday afternoon – you’ll be glad you did.”
