Prepare to be transported back in time to the glitz and glamour of Broadway’s most iconic era! The Glen Innes Arts Council Choir is thrilled to present The Golden Age of Broadway, a musical journey through some of the most beloved and timeless songs ever performed on the Great White Way. The performance promises to be a spectacular evening of music, nostalgia, and pure joy that will leave audiences singing along and tapping their feet.

Having had the privilege of attending a recent rehearsal, I can say with confidence that this show is one you won’t want to miss. The choir, made up of passionate and talented local singers, has dedicated countless hours to perfecting every note and capturing the essence of Broadway’s golden age.

Under the skilful direction of Jessica Grulovic, musical theatre graduate and lead actress of multiple musical productions, the GIAC choir has curated a line-up of Broadway’s finest hits. Expect to hear classic show-stopping numbers like Singin’ in the Rain, Close Every Door, and The Sound of Music. Each piece has been expertly arranged to showcase the emotional power of group performance while honouring the original compositions that have remained in the hearts of theatre lovers for generations.

Jessica says that she has immensely enjoyed working with the Glen Innes Arts Council Choir this year. “The beauty of a community choir is that it doesn’t matter what your background is, what your experience is, where you’re from – music and community choirs have a magical way of bringing people from all walks of life together to create beauty in unison.”

One standout moment during the rehearsal was a powerful rendition of a medley from Les Misérables, where the harmonies resonated beautifully, sending chills through the theatre.

In addition to the exquisite full choir singing, the performance will feature soloists and small ensembles, highlighting the diverse talents of the choir members. The choir has also worked closely with talented pianist, Helen Smith, to bring the magic of a live accompaniment to life. This collaboration adds a rich, dynamic layer to the performance, enveloping the audience in the old-world soundscapes that defined the golden era of Broadway. The blend of voices, heartfelt delivery, and evident passion for the music combine to create a show that is as moving as it is entertaining.

Whether you’re a lifelong fan of musical theatre or a newcomer looking for an unforgettable evening, The Golden Age of Broadway is a must-see. This celebration of Broadway’s most cherished songs promises to be an uplifting experience for the whole family, and a stellar performance you’ll be talking about long after the final curtain call!
