New Off-Leash Dog Park Coming to Glen Innes

Glen Innes is set to welcome a new off-leash dog park at Lions Park, with the project moving ahead after a community consultation period. Glen Innes Severn Council held the consultation from 7 August to 4 September, receiving 23 submissions from residents, reflecting strong local interest and engagement in the park’s development.

Following a review of feedback, the Council confirmed that Lions Park, with its established infrastructure and central location, was selected as the ideal site. The park’s existing amenities, such as restrooms, picnic areas, and drinking fountains, make it convenient and accessible for residents and visitors alike. Its proximity to the highway and the town centre further enhances its appeal.

To ensure a safe and enjoyable experience, the new dog park will feature full fencing with double entry gates and CCTV cameras to deter vandalism. The Council will also maintain the site, including the restocking of pet waste bags, ensuring a clean and welcoming environment for all.

One notable suggestion from the consultation was the inclusion of agility training equipment for dogs. The Council is currently reviewing the budget to assess if this can be accommodated within the park’s design and space.

Other key facilities planned for the dog park include:

– Shelter (either natural or man-made) for shade

– Clear signage displaying the park’s terms of use

– Rubbish bins and pet waste bag dispensers

– Water infrastructure for both dogs and people

– Entry lighting for safety

Council will now seek contractors to complete the construction of the new off-leash dog park. Subject to quotations from contractors coming in within the allocated budget, the project is anticipated to be commenced and completed this financial year.
