Independent Arborist Conducts Tree Assessment

Glen Innes Severn Council has commissioned an independent, qualified arborist to conduct detailed assessments of local trees to enhance public safety and ensure the health of urban green spaces. This assessment has covered prominent areas across Glen Innes, including Church Street, the Main Centre, Centennial Parklands, Glen Innes Cemetery, King George Park, King Edward Park, Glen Innes Skate Park, Emmaville RSL Park, Veness Park, and ANZAC Park.

The evaluation involved an in-depth review of 1,266 trees across these locations, with results now informing the Council’s next steps. Of the trees inspected, 89 have been identified as needing removal and replacement due to safety concerns and their declining health. Council has assured the community that additional details will be shared prior to the commencement of these works.

In selecting replacement species, the Council is seeking expert guidance to choose varieties suited to the local climate and the heritage character of the region. Although replacements will be undertaken, the timing may be adjusted to ensure the availability of chosen species and optimal planting conditions.

For the remaining 1,177 trees, which will be preserved, some will require remedial actions to maintain their health and public safety. Immediate measures are already being implemented to address trees considered to pose significant risk.

Over the coming year, Council will continue to prioritise tree safety, focusing on those assessed as high-risk while taking steps to manage those with lower risk ratings.
