The Makers Shed Re-Opens in Deepwater

Local business The Makers Shed recently closed the doors at its Glen Innes location in order to relocate to Deepwater. After spending the past three months renovating the new premises, The Makers Shed is now open at 80 Tenterfield Street, Deepwater.

We spoke with business owner Richard Moon about the renovation.

GIN – So, what prompted the move to Deepwater?

RM – Well we live in Deepwater, so it was mostly to be closer to home. A two minute commute is much more pleasant than a thirty minute one! Also, when the opportunity popped up to move to Deepwater we grabbed it – we really love Deepwater.

GIN – From what we can see from your Facebook photos, you’re no stranger to putting a lick of paint on some walls. But it looks like the renovation turned out to be much more than that?

RM – Yes. We knew it was going to be a big job, and it was. We were very fortunate to have been able to engage some really incredible tradespeople to help us out with the floor. The floor was a major job. We didn’t start out with a plan for a polished concrete floor, but we’ve ended up with that and it has come up beautifully. It is a one hundred year old building and you see the history of the building in the floor. It’s really quite beautiful.

GIN – How long has the whole project taken you?

RM – Three months.  We were fortunate enough to be able to have the time to do it. It’s been intense, but it also hasn’t been 24 hours a day – we’ve had the time and space to do it and I’m very grateful for that.

GIN – It’s a good thing that you’ve finished now, because you’ve already got workshops booked for December, is that right?

RM – Yes, we’ve got a full workshop booked for the 14th of December.

GIN – How can people find out about what you’ve got planned for the future?

RM – We’ve got our website – themakersshed.org with all sorts of information on it. There’s also a feature now where people can sign up for a “four times a year” newsletter which has all of our events and other things in it.
