The Glen Innes community has been praised for its efforts in coming together to restore the town following a severe storm in January. The storm caused significant damage, but thanks to the hard work and dedication of local volunteers, the town was swiftly cleaned up and put back in order.
Brendan Moylan MP acknowledged the contributions of residents during a speech in the New South Wales Parliament on Tuesday, highlighting the resilience and community spirit displayed by the people of Glen Innes.
“I recognise the Glen Innes community for banding together in January of this year to clean up and put the town right following a large storm that smashed the town in January,” Mr Moylan said.
He extended special congratulations to Richard Gallagher and Bianca Hill for their leadership in organising the clean-up efforts and for their proactive approach to bringing the community together. All of the other volunteers who helped out were also acknowledged.
Local businesses also played a role in supporting the volunteers, with Mr Moylan expressing gratitude to The Local of Glen Innes for donating coffees to those who took part in the clean-up.
“I commend and thank everyone involved in this wonderful neighbour-to-neighbour effort for their hard work for cleaning up the town and for generously providing their time, their utes, their trailers and their strength. The community spirit in Glen Innes is most definitely alive and well.”
The recognition in Parliament reflects the appreciation felt by many in the town for those who stepped up in a time of need. The response to the storm demonstrated the strength of the Glen Innes community and its commitment to supporting one another in difficult times.
