The local organizing committee has been loud with its praise for the golfers, prize donors and the Glen Innes community for their efforts which recently raised more than $10,000, with $8,000 presented at the Glen Innes Show to sHedway representatives for further work in applying the sHedway mental health program.
The balance has been retained by the local committee to support next year’s fund raising golf event, the Beardy Shears at the 2026 Show and for other fundraising activities.
The sHedway programme works towards suicide prevention and positive mental health in shearing shed personnel through professional counselling, workshops and skill sharing.
This is the heart of shed family strength and caring in action, a spokesperson told Glen Innes News.
A huge array of donated prizes were on offer for the 39 teams (117 golfers) who competed at the Glen Innes Golf Club.
sHedway was represented by Caz Mumford who travelled from Dubbo for the event while visitors from Inverell, Brisbane, Sydney, Guyra and Barraba swelled the large number of locals who enjoyed not only the golf but also the Lions Club’s barbecue.
Several of the prize winners displayed great goodwill when they donated their trophies back to a central pool for an impromptu auction.
