Another Fantastic Highlands Small Schools Alliance Day at Glen Innes West Infants School

On Tuesday 6th May, Glen Innes West Infants School proudly hosted another memorable Highlands Small Schools Alliance Day, with nearly 100 students and staff from Deepwater, Red Range, and Wytaliba in attendance.

The school community came together to provide students with a wide range of rich and engaging learning opportunities. A standout highlight of the day was the Light Horse display led by Mr and Mrs Newberry. With “Tilly,” his trusted steed, Mr Newberry thrilled students by leaping hay bales, hoisting flags, and popping balloons—each moment met with enthusiastic cheers.

Judy Fraser also attended with her service dog to explain the important roles that service and assistance dogs play in supporting people with different needs. Mrs Cheryl Muldoon gave an insightful presentation about the various animals that served alongside our armed forces in times of war.

Mrs Judy Ennis and Mrs Shannon De Jong provided a ‘living history’ experience, sharing an extensive collection of wartime artefacts for students to examine and explore. Meanwhile, Mrs Lesley Clibborn delighted everyone by baking traditional ANZAC biscuits, adding a comforting and delicious touch to the day.

The event concluded with a solemn and moving ANZAC service officiated by returned servicemen Rod, James, and Victor. Their presence and words gave students a deeper understanding of the meaning and significance of ANZAC Day. As wreaths were laid, students stood in respectful silence, their behaviour reflecting a reverence that connected them to generations past.
