The Deepwater School of Arts Hall is hosting a Community & Volunteer Expo on Saturday May 10 to raise awareness of the village’s many not-for-profit groups and other organisations. Most of Deepwater’s groups will have members available throughout the day to provide information and answer questions about their group.
The expo will also feature a display of work by the Deepwater Sewing & Quilting Group, and a free sausage sizzle provided by the Deepwater Progress Association.
Organisations appearing in the expo include art and craft groups, sports clubs, charities, churches, emergency services and more. Hall committee member and Progress secretary, Tricia Stack, said the expo was shaping up to be a real showcase for the village. “Just about every club, group or educational facility will have a table to show what they do. Lots of newcomers to the area will be happy to see what clubs and groups there are in the village.”
Representatives for the Deepwater Sewing & Quilting Group said they were excited to display their work during the expo. The group has spent decades creating countless handmade gifts and essentials for hospitals in NSW and Queensland. In 2022, 316 handmade quilts were delivered to regional and metropolitan hospitals, each one created by a member of the group.
A recent article in the Deepwater newsletter encouraged local residents to volunteer and connect with their community. “Part of what makes a small community thrive is the willingness of people to be involved, to participate in events that are happening, and to offer some of their time and effort to help get things done. Volunteering is also a great social opportunity!” said one of the event organisers.
The Deepwater Community & Volunteer Expo will run from 9 am to 3 pm, with lunch available from 11 am to 2 pm. Attendance is free, and bookings are not required. Vegetarian sausages and gluten-free bread will be available for the sausage sizzle.
