Our Local History: Storyplace – A Virtual Museum

Twenty seven items from The in Glen Innes are featured in the Museums and Galleries NSW site https://storyplace.org.au/.

The stories share new insights into objects professionally photographed from various angles.

The site explains “ publishes stories about the history and culture of NSW.”

Its stories are inspired by the objects, records and artworks cared for by museums, galleries and Aboriginal cultural centres, located throughout regional NSW.

Stories about regional landscapes, localities, towns, villages, and communities, along with the animals, peoples, and ideas, that have shaped or influenced them, can all be found at .

is the result of co-operative partnerships established between regional museums, galleries and cultural centres, with Museums and Galleries of New South Wales (M&G NSW), since 2018.

Behind the scenes of are many paid and volunteer staff who work together to document (understand), conserve (care for) and digitise (take photos, scan, record or film) regional collections.

But wouldn’t exist without other resources. has been proudly funded by the in association with M&G NSW.

makes accessible to everyone the stories that are important to regional NSW, and which are represented by the collections cared for by its museums, galleries and cultural centres.

There are over 500 museums, galleries and cultural centres in regional NSW. These organisations are spread across an area almost five times the size of England, which can make visiting them difficult.

There is nothing like seeing the ‘real thing’, but will allow you to view many of the objects, records, community memorabilia, photographs, oral histories and artworks, located in regional NSW online – from anywhere and at any time.

So, whether you’re a curious community member, a student at school or university, an educator or researcher, or a visitor to somewhere in NSW, Storyplace will have something that inspires you.

Storyplace stories are authored by dedicated storytellers, contracted to work with M&G NSW and regional museums, galleries and cultural centres.
