A chance meeting on a train nearly twenty years ago lead to the establishment of a Glen Innes chapter of Wrap with Love. Apparently, the person involved asked another passenger what they were crocheting. When the other passenger told them what they were doing, the Glen Innes resident felt that Glen Innes could become a part of this process. Glen Innes Wrap with Love started off with two participants. And so it has continued in an unbroken stream from then until now.
The participants of Wrap with Love meet on Wednesdays between 11-3 in the Library Meeting Room. They crochet or knit squares for blankets that are distributed to palliative care patients, to those in need, and to areas where natural disasters have occurred in Australia and all around the world.
They have distribution channels said to rival Australia Post! However, Wrap with Love is a very cost effective organisation, and their blankets are delivered without any money exchanging hands.
The object is to crochet 25cm (10inch) squares with the aim of providing blankets 177cm (70 inches) x 99cm (39 inches). Different patterns and colours are encouraged.
Nancy Fairy took on the role of coordinator in 2019. She states “We’re always looking for new members and encourage anyone who’s interested to come and join us on Wednesdays. We’re also looking for any spare acrylic yarn people have lying around, and hope people can donate what they have to Wrap with Love. We guarantee we will turn it into beautiful, useful blankets”.
